Your wedding morning sets the tone for everything that follows. Long before you walk down the aisle, exchange vows, or celebrate with family and friends, those first few hours shape the way your entire day unfolds. When your morning feels calm and intentional, you’re able to be fully present for each moment—and that presence shines through in every photograph, from the quiet anticipation of getting ready to your first dance beneath the stars.

After more than twenty years of photographing weddings across Savannah, Atlanta, Sea Island, and the Golden Isles, we’ve noticed one undeniable pattern: the couples who protect their wedding morning often have the most joyful, authentic, and emotionally rich galleries. Not because everything went perfectly, but because they gave themselves the gift of slowing down enough to truly experience one of the most meaningful days of their lives.
Creating a calm wedding morning doesn’t require a flawless timeline or hours of extra padding. It simply requires a little intention. Here are our favorite ways to begin your wedding day with more peace, more presence, and memories you’ll cherish long after the celebration ends.

When people imagine beautiful getting ready photos, they often think about the details: the bridal suite, the dress hanging in the window, fresh flowers, or matching robes. While those elements certainly add to the story, they aren’t what make the images memorable.
The real difference is presence.
A relaxed wedding morning gives you the freedom to fully experience the moments that matter most. The anticipation as you slip into your dress. Your mother’s reaction when she sees you for the first time. The laughter that erupts with your closest friends. A quiet breath before the ceremony begins. Those moments can’t be staged or recreated. They happen naturally when there is space to simply be.
That doesn’t mean your morning has to be perfectly planned. Weddings are wonderfully unpredictable, and there will almost always be little surprises along the way. But building extra time into your schedule and surrounding yourself with a trusted team allows those unexpected moments to remain just that: small moments, rather than the focus of your morning.
The result is more than beautiful getting ready photos. It’s a collection of images filled with genuine connection, authentic emotion, and the kind of effortless joy you’ll want to revisit for the rest of your life.

Creating beautiful getting ready photos doesn’t require a perfectly choreographed morning or hours of extra time. It simply requires intention. After more than twenty years of photographing weddings, we’ve found that a few thoughtful decisions can completely transform both your experience and your photographs.
If hair and makeup is scheduled to take three hours, plan for three and a half. Not because you expect something to go wrong, but because that extra time creates space to simply enjoy your wedding morning.
Those unhurried moments often become the most meaningful getting ready photos of the day. Your mother fastening your necklace with tears in her eyes. Your best friend making you laugh over a mimosa. A quiet moment alone as you look out the window before slipping into your dress. These aren’t moments you schedule—they’re moments that happen when your timeline leaves room for them.

It sounds almost too simple to mention, but it’s one of the best things you can do for yourself. A nourishing breakfast helps you stay energized, present, and able to fully enjoy every part of your wedding morning. And when you feel your best, it naturally shines through in your getting ready photos.
A full room doesn’t always create the best atmosphere. The most meaningful getting ready photos are often made in spaces that feel calm, connected, and unrushed.
Invite the people who help you feel most like yourself. A smaller, more intentional group creates room for genuine conversation, heartfelt moments, and authentic emotion—all of which translate beautifully in your photographs.

On your wedding morning, your only responsibility should be soaking it all in.
Ask your planner, maid of honor, or another trusted friend to answer vendor questions, coordinate timelines, and handle last-minute details. The more present you are, the more your photographer can capture genuine moments instead of interruptions. The result is a collection of getting ready photos that feel as effortless and joyful as the morning itself.
One of the easiest ways to create beautiful getting ready photos is to surround yourself with professionals who allow you to simply be present. When you feel genuinely confident and cared for, you’re able to relax, trust the process, and focus on the experience rather than how you look.
Professional hair and makeup isn’t just about creating a beautiful hairstyle or flawless makeup application—it helps set the tone for the entire morning. Instead of rushing through a checklist or worrying about every little detail, you have dedicated time to slow down while someone else takes care of you. That calm confidence naturally shines through in your getting ready photos, creating images that feel effortless rather than posed.

Here is something we want every couple to understand: we are not simply photographing moments. We are building a story.
A fine art wedding album is a cohesive visual narrative. It opens with anticipation and effortless magic and moves through your day with intention, arriving at images that make you catch your breath because of how perfectly they capture not only what happened, but who you were in those moments. The morning is the opening chapter of that story. It sets the emotional tone for everything that follows.

When the morning is calm, the opening chapter is rich. There are layers to work with, quiet details and warm light and the faces of people who love you, unguarded and luminous. When the morning is chaotic, those layers get thin. We are still there, still creating, still making photographs we are proud of. But the difference between a gallery that starts with depth and one that starts with scramble is something you feel when you open your album years from now.
This is why we consult with our couples before the wedding, not just after it. Artwork is not an afterthought in what we do. It is the end goal of every single wedding we photograph, and it is built into our client experience from the beginning. We guide you through your timeline, your design choices, your album selections, because we understand that every decision we make together shapes the heirloom you will hold in your hands for the rest of your life.

There will be many things you plan perfectly for your wedding day. The flowers, the menu, the playlist, the vows. We want to encourage you to add the morning to that list.
Not because it needs to be orchestrated within an inch of its life. But because when it is held with intention, when it is spacious and warm and full of the people who matter most, it becomes something you will return to again and again in your album. A chapter you will show your children. A morning that felt, even in the middle of it, like something you never wanted to end.
That is what we are here to create with you. Not documentation. Artwork. A cohesive visual story that preserves how your day looked and, more importantly, how it felt.
We would love to be part of your wedding day. If you are planning a wedding in Savannah, Atlanta, Sea Island, the Golden Isles, or the Highlands of North Carolina, we invite you to reach out and begin the conversation.
Whether you are planning a luxury wedding in Savannah, a coastal celebration in Sea Island, or a romantic Highlands wedding in North Carolina, creating space for a calm and intentional morning changes the way your entire wedding day feels.

We recommend building your getting-ready timeline with more breathing room than you think you need. We prefer to begin getting ready photos once the hair and makeup process is mostly complete. For most weddings, we like to have two hours of getting ready photos with our brides and one hour with our grooms.
It matters more than most couples realize. A smaller, more intimate group in the getting-ready suite tends to produce richer, more emotionally resonant photographs. The energy in the room is tangible and it shows in your images. We always encourage couples to think intentionally about who they want present for those first hours of the day.

Absolutely, and we feel strongly about this. Professional hair and makeup makes a genuine difference not only in how you look on camera, but in how you feel throughout the day. Skin that is properly primed and set, hair that is secured for hours of movement and weather, these are not small things on a wedding day. Many of our brides also choose to have their artist stay with them for touch-ups and look changes from ceremony to reception, and we love seeing how that choice carries through in the photographs from beginning to end.
The getting-ready portion of your day is typically the opening chapter of your wedding album, and we approach it with that in mind. We are looking for details, the dress, the jewelry, the flowers, the faces of the people who love you most, alongside the quiet moments and the ones that make you laugh. When the morning has been given room to breathe, these images layer beautifully into a narrative that feels complete from the very first page.
