Camila & Derek | Athens Maternity Session

Camila and Derek are friends of ours since they’re both in Martin’s department at the University of Georgia. They’re such a sweet couple, and I was so excited to work with them! They decided to have their Athens maternity session at UGA, which makes perfect sense since that’s where they spend most of their days. It was great to be able to get outside and enjoy the UGA scenery.

Athens Maternity Session

Camila and Derek wanted the shoot to feel really laid back and relaxed. They wanted the photos to feel authentic to them, which is yet another reason why UGA was such a great idea. Plus, they knew all the best spots to go! They chose a quiet spot on campus where there is lots of greenery and flowers and fewer people. You never want a bunch of people walking around in the background. We also had to get pictures in front of the famous Herty Fountain, a UGA staple. That fountain plus those stairs makes for some amazing shots.

UGA’s campus is so gorgeous year-round, especially when the flowers are in bloom towards the end of the summer. We lucked out and held our Athens maternity session right as the hydrangeas were in full color. This meant some great shots with pops of pink and blue.

One of the reasons I love doing outdoor photoshoots is that not only do you get the best lighting, but couples are always more at ease. By doing a maternity shoot outside, I can really take a step back and let the couple have fun. Some of my favorite shots are when the couple is just cuddling together and laughing. I just love the joy on Camila’s face in these pictures! It made the photoshoot so joyful as well!
