Berlin and Menomena

December 18, 2010

Berlin is hands down one of my favorite cities.  I don’t know if its because my family is German, on my mom’s side or what but I just feel more of a connection with German people than I do with the Spanish.  I love Spain, don’t get me wrong, but I can’t really relate to the people.  However, the attitude and the atmosphere of Germany. Totally.  Berlin has such a strong creative energy.  You can see it immediately.  We were in Berlin last year during our Christmas trip.  Our friend Alev and her husband recently moved to Berlin so we jumped at the chance to return for a visit.  As always, you can see Martin’s post here.  But I wanted to share some pictures with you here as well of our weekend.  There are so many fun little neighborhoods with really creative graffiti art and cafes and boutiques…..

Monster Kabinett? Teehee!

This was my favorite for obvious reasons.

Photography museum!

This place was full of artist workshops, mostly metalsmithing.

Us and our friends, Alev and Baris.  They are wonderful and we are very grateful for their hospitality!

I was in love with this tree.

So the other reason we went to Berlin was to see Menomena.  They are one of our most favorite bands ever and if you don’t know them, you SHOULD.  They are from Portland and their music is just super fun and creative.  They all sing and play multiple unusual instruments.  You can read more about them here.  We’ve seen them twice now and their shows are my probably my favorite.  They are so GOOOOD.  So heres a few pictures and a video of their performance.

Here’s my favorite song on their new album, Mines, called Dirty Cartoons.  I find to be quite emotional and beautiful, it gets me every time.
