Courtney & Doug – Athens Wedding at The Foundry

Courtney and Doug had hands down one of the funnest weddings I have photographed this year! Not only is the couple so sweet and fun to be around, but they had the best live band I have ever seen (and I have seen a ton of wedding bands!) Their wedding took place in Athens, Georgia, and was the perfect mix of classic details, and southern touches.

When I asked the couple how they met, they had the cutest story. “It was an intricate combination of Doug not fully believing a girl was going to come up from Savannah to Atlanta to go on a blind date, Courtney not wanting to come up to Atlanta from Savannah to go on a blind date, us both laughing a lot and hitting it off, us both having one too many glasses of wine, us not wanting the night to end, us going to Johnny’s Hideaway, and then us both slowly starting to realize we were having feelings for each other and maybe this was the beginning of something special.” The couple is now excited to turn their house into a home, one amazon box at a time (I can so relate to that!)

The couple chose one of the most stunning hotels for their getting ready space, Hotel Indigo in downtown Athens. The ladies got ready in the Presidential Baby Grand suite, which had the most gorgeous one-of-a-kind baby blue grand piano. The wedding colors were shades of blue, so it was perfect. But the showstopper? Courtney’s gown by Martina Liana. Her gown had an illusion racerback, with a high neck, beading, lace, and the most incredible train.

After a ceremony at the Catholic Center at UGA, we took some time to get bride and groom portraits in nearby gardens. The reception took place at The Foundry at Graduate Athens. This reclaimed iron mill not only has incredible concerts but has the coolest two-story space with a huge stage. The couple had guests seated throughout the space, with plenty of room for dancing.

Their band, The Main Attraction, brought the house down! This dance band not only sings, but they dance and even brought the couple on stage! They played a mix of Top 40 and swing, and was one of the most incredible reception bands I have ever seen. They are THE band to book if you want your reception to be a huge party!
