Hey y’all, I’m Izzy, owner and lead photographer at Izzy + Co. I’m a sassy redhead who'd rather be in the woods than on the beach. My signature shade is hot pink and my poison is tequila. Drag queens are my role models and old fashioned mixtapes are my love language. Here you will find the latest weddings and portrait sessions plus inspiration and tips so grab a cocktail + peruse the pretty!
A romantic, Rob knew he was in love with Rachel after their first date when they were just relaxing and talking on her couch. It felt so natural and right. He says, “It took me 8 years to get the rest right, but I knew then that she was it.” Rachel and Rob are both in active military duty so they had a courthouse marriage in 2014 immediately following their engagement. They treated themselves to a stay at The Georgian Terrace and had such an amazing experience there. Rachel & Rob knew it would remain a special place and when the time came, they would have to have a Georgian Terrace Hotel wedding.
Three adjectives that describe your wedding day are:
Magical, Emotional and Spectacular
I wanted a Lord of the Rings meets moonlight garden feeling so I turned to Pinterest for inspiration and became addicted to Style Me Pretty. I also looked at home decor magazines for color combinations & texture mixing. I drew inspiration for the ceremony from the white tree of Gondor but mostly this dream I had of walking through a temple of trees and having lots of light.
I loved walking up behind him and I could tell he was nervous. The second I touched his shoulder and he turned around, the look on his face is something I will never forget. We were so glad we did a first look because we got that special moment alone. It’s important to get those moments because after the ceremony, you won’t get many more.
Rachel: I planned a special entrance and as I waited in the terrace for the doors to open, I could hear the song A Thousand Years playing. Then the doors opened and I walked down and saw how he looked at me. It was a completion of a fairy tale dream.
Rob: When the doors opened and she walked in, I was just blown away. I was floored at how beautiful she looked and how amazing it is that she loves me and we are finally doing this.
Rob: At the end of our recessional, we pulled out the selfie stick and took our first married selfie. That was awesome!
I always dreamed of the white tree. Having that as our altar piece was amazing and it simply glowed. I wanted something different when it came to my look so my dress was simple but sparkled. I loved the idea of wearing flowers but I have always dreamed of stars. I combined the two and wore star hair clips and a flower covered veil. We didn’t want a traditional guestbook so we selected a variety of postcards that represented us and events in our relationship. Rob elected to wear a handcrafted dogwood boutonnière to represent his North Carolina heritage. With Rob being a firefighter, we placed a custom helmet shield next to the cake.
I knew that after the wedding, we would have memories but that the photos would be the key to those. I love my photographer! She understood exactly what I wanted and not for one second did I feel afraid for my photos.
Our DJ was awesome! We knew he was the right fit even though we never got to sit down face to face. He understood our eclectic musical tastes and melded them to make an amazing party.
A last minute add in was the videographer, which I am so glad we did. There’s nothing like watching the wedding like its a movie to keep it special.
You have to decide what is important to you and then rank everything else. I bargain shopped for the bridesmaids gifts. We skipped the Save the Dates and opted for a Facebook Event announcement.
You don’t have to have a calligrapher do all of your paper goods. DIY can be a good project for a couple.
Sit down and decide what you want and what is important to you. If you are on a tight budget, stick to it! You still have to live after the wedding, so don’t go crazy and overspend. Don’t let anyone and everyone be involved in your planning. Your wants will get lost and then you might feel like you aren’t getting what you want. Your guests will be happy just being there with you; enjoy being with them. No matter how much you try, other people might make you late. Don’t freak out; just go on without them. They’ll catch up!. Remember, this is your wedding. Things will go wrong, you’ll have to compromise and bend sometimes and sometimes your fiancé will want to wear something you really object to BUT It’s something special for you two together. It’s about the both of you and nobody else! Eat, Drink and Be Married!!! Best of luck!
Rachel & Rob – your Georgian Terrace Hotel wedding was a complete fairy tale! Thank you so much for choosing me to document it!
