Family sessions hold such a special place in my heart! They are such a great way to capture milestones in a family’s life. I also love getting to simply capture children enjoying the magic of childhood. I always advise my mommas to leave any expectations behind and allow their children to just do what they’re going to do. When you take the pressure off of a session to be any particular way and just allow yourselves to play and have fun, the most magical photos happen!
This mom had the perfect attitude towards the session! She wanted it to be authentic so when the youngest, who was dressed in her finest, sat down right in a puddle, she didn’t care! Often times, we want our life moments to be perfectly posed, with the best smiles. But that isn’t always authentic! Having a family can mean messy moments, playing in the sand, and jumping in the ocean. Since we got to do the family session on Sea Island, the kids had so much fun just jumping around and playing. It was the perfect backdrop for this family!
All three kids got to wear fun outfits that showed their personalities. I love the older daughter’s overalls and poodle cape! The son was at the age where he had no interest in participating in photos. (We all know that stage!) So, I focused on capturing him playing and being himself. Instead of trying to force the session into something in particular, we just let the kids be kids! And I love the way these photos are simply of them playing and having a good time and showing exactly what life genuinely looked like for them at that moment.
In this season of life, important milestones continue to happen. Birthdays, births, anniversaries – they are all happening! And even though we are still in quarantine now, it’s such a good idea to book a family session for once this is over! Once it is safe to shoot again, I am so excited to capture more family sessions, like this one!
