Why You Should Have a Wedding Weekend

January 3, 2023

Your wedding is one of the most incredible days of your life. You spend months (even over a year!) planning the little details. And before you know it, it’s over in a flash. That is why I love encouraging my couples to make it an entire wedding weekend! There are so many reasons I love photographing wedding weekends, and after having the honor to do so over the last few years, I wanted to share some of the best reasons to turn your wedding day into a whole weekend.

What Is A Wedding Weekend?

A wedding weekend is simply curating events over multiple days for family and friends to attend. So instead of just the wedding day, you have more things to do! Additional events can include a bridal luncheon, a welcome party after your rehearsal, and a send-off brunch. But the possibilities are endless! I’ve also seen couples do a beach day or an afternoon on the lake. It’s like a mini-vacation for your guests!

Your wedding day will fly by, and you may only be able to have conversations with some people on the day of. So having events before and after alleviates the pressure and lets the two of you relax and soak it all in.

It Lets You Spend More Time With Family + Friends

One of the biggest benefits is that you get to spend more time with the ones you love. Your wedding is one of the few times you will have everyone from both of your families together. When you host a full weekend and have a photographer there to capture it, you can really cherish this time together. Also, it lets your photographer get to know the most important people better before the wedding day. Not to mention you can capture even more styling details and all of your incredible fashion moments!

Create An Amazing Guest Experience

You can create more guest experiences when you have multiple parties and events days. And you can make it much more personalized! If you love bright and bold colors but want the wedding day to be pastel, you can curate and design your welcome party to be bold and fun!

It also lets you highlight other fun venues that your guests may never see otherwise. For example, if you do a wedding weekend in Savannah or Sea Island, you could have welcome drinks at a cool rooftop bar, providing a different backdrop for everyone to enjoy. You can also add some of your favorite things to do as a couple! Love to host a cookout? Have an upscale low-country boil by the water to show off your favorite food. Or have you always wanted to have all the women in your life together for drinks and lunch? Host a bridal luncheon!

Celebrate Before Tying The Knot

While some couples choose to have their bachelor and bachelorette parties months before, some choose to do it the same weekend. If you know all of your friends will be in town, why not celebrate with a bachelorette party! One of my favorite planners, Design Studio South, even has a bachelorette concierge service to create a perfectly styled affair.
