Whitney & Charles | Duke Gardens Engagement Session

I get a lot of couples ask if they should take their engagement photo’s in the same city as their wedding. And the answer is: You don’t have to! Whitney and Charles are having a wedding this March at the Jepson Center in Savannah. But they live in Durham! So I traveled up to Durham to capture their Duke Gardens engagement session. I love being able to photograph engagements in a variety of places! I am able to travel to certain places easily for shoots, like Durham, Atlanta, Savannah, and Jekyll Island.

We did their shoot at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens, which was the setting of one of my most recent weddings, KD and Ben! This garden is perfect for photoshoots and weddings, with so many different spaces to choose from. In fact, there are over 85 acres! And the best part? It’s dog-friendly! Whitney and Charles have a sweet pup named Brownie, who is a lab and corgi mix. Brownie is just so cute!

Duke Gardens Engagement

For the first half, we chose one of the gardens, and the couple wore more formal outfits. Whitney wore a beautiful lavender lace gown, and Charles looked so dapper in a blue suit jacket. And of course, Brownie was front and center! Next, the couple changed into a more casual outfit, and we walked around the gardens. The flowers were in bloom, and it was so beautiful! I love when couples have two outfits, since it gives them a variety of images to share. And let them chose the perfect engagement card picture!

Whitney and Charles met at work, and both caught each other’s eye. While they were seeing other people at first, they eventually both became single, and started hanging out. Next thing you know, they were inseparable! They are looking forward to continuing to share this crazy thing called life together, officially! I can’t wait to shoot their wedding in just a few weeks.
