Your not so Valentine’s – Valentine’s Day Inspiration Shoot

February 27, 2013

I almost peed my pants when Nicole of Nicole Rene Designs (Simply Savannah Events) told me that Ruffled wanted us to collaborate on a styled inspiration shoot for Valentine’s Day.  Its been a dream of mine to be featured on Ruffled ever since I began using it as a resource for my own wedding.  Its one of the best in terms of providing adorable crafty lovely different dreamy wedding inspiration.  Naturally, our next step was involving my partner in craft crime, Audrey of French Knot Studios.  We decided to stray from the currently popular pastel color palettes and instead chose punchy brights and of course lots of sparkle.  We were also inspired by clean lines and funky geometric shapes.  To get an idea of how we go from inspiration to execution – check out our Pinterest board for this shoot!  You can see the entire feature on Ruffled here.

Miss Pickles Press created the amazing invitation suite (as well as the escort cards, menu cards & napkin belly bands featured later).  And what’s Valentine’s Day without a little candy?

Since we wanted to use SO MUCH COLOR, we knew we needed a subtle backdrop.  The Jepson Center provided the perfect location with its clean white stone and stark lines.  And they do weddings!Madame Chrysanthemum provided the brightly colored bouquets – mixing silk flowers in with live ones creates a beautiful bouquet on a budget!Audrey made adorable little pins in place of bouts for the guys.  She also made the bow ties, heart tie, suspenders and sweater vest.We knew that we wanted a cool installation for the ceremony so we constructed hundreds of these geometric shapes out of bright paper, dipped some of them in gold glitter and strung them on fishing line.  Cool, right?   The aisle was filled with confetti made from the leftover paper scraps.Macarons were provided by Maison de Macarons and are necessary to complete any dessert table or cocktail hour!Miss Pickles Press did an amazing job of pulling in the Valentine’s Day motifs into the escort cards.  She also understood our need a for sparkle – this is why we love her!All furniture was borrowed from the coolest furniture boutique in town, 24e.  They are the ultimate in forward thinking interior design, mixing styles aesthetically and all around being cool.  They provided the amazing wooden table, the ghost chairs and stool and yellow ottomans.  The design from our invitation was repeated in the menu card and table number by Miss Pickles Press.A ton of DIY went into this table – all things you can do too!  Our glasses were dipped in mint paint.  We repeated our geometric shape used for the ceremony and made drink stirrers.  The silverware was spray painted gold and pink – for real life, remember to only spray paint the bottoms or shellac them with something safe for eating.  The fantastic table runner and place mats were handmade by Audrey.  And the belly bands featured different conversation heart sayings. The amazing cake was done by Tier Luxury Cakes – one of the BEST in Savannah! Our story included the bride and groom grabbing coffee at their favorite spot after their afternoon reception.  So we took advantage of Savannah’s beautifully lit squares for some outside photos…..And then took a stroll to The Coffee Fox – the newly opened second location of Foxy Loxy – my personal favorite coffee spots in town.  The two shops are decorated so fun and artistically, we knew it would fit in with our story!Inside the shop were these note cards by Macon York which gave us the perfect ending to our shoot!Soooooooooooo.  What do you think?!  This is one is so incredibly different from the last one, and the two before that, that I’m curious to know!  Love it, hate it?  Too cool, too over the top?  Lay it on me!  Hehe.
