Christi & Michael – Destination Wedding – Jamaica

July 14, 2016

Christi and Michael reached out to me last year in regards to their destination wedding in Savannah.  We chatted back and forth over emails and fell in love with each other.  Then I got the sad news that wedding planning in Savannah was proving to be too difficult, so they decided to have a proper destination wedding in Jamaica.  My heart sank just a little as I expected them to be saying goodbye to me – BUT THEY’RE AWESOME and invited me to come along with!  That pretty much makes them my favorite clients ever, can you blame me?  I get to witness lots of “destination” weddings in Savannah as its a popular choice for out of state couples and small weddings.  I love the intimacy of a destination wedding, the excitement of being somewhere new and special and the fact that everyone’s on a giant extra awesome vacation.  Getting to witness such a wedding in a place like Jamaica was like that, but even more exciting because it was a destination for me as well!  I was able to bring my sweet momma on this trip which was pretty special and Christi and Michael made us feel like guests the entire weekend, we were pretty spoiled.  The day of the wedding was warm and glorious and beautiful and the grounds of the Sandals Resort in Montego Bay offered countless scenery to photograph all of the details and moments.  The images below are interspersed with some information from the bride – enjoy!

Memorable, filled with love, and unbelievable

Michael and I decided that we wanted to have a destination wedding since our friends and family are from different parts of the U.S. Given that everyone would have to fly, we wanted to pick a destination that most people have not visited. The tip I would give a bride who wants a destination wedding is to go with the flow.

Michael and I decided to have a “First Look”.  My favorite part is the moment we had alone. We had written letters to each other on the morning of the ceremony so we used this time as our opportunity to read them. Also, it helped get the jitters out. I remember being so nervous right before seeing my Groom so I’m glad I was able to get that out of the way before the actual ceremony.

I wanted to keep with the beach theme and soft colors. The overall mood of the event was casual so we tried to keep it fun!

The funniest moment ( which I’m laughing now ) is the videographer, who was provided by the resort, was late to the ceremony and did not capture the beginning the ceremony. Instead of waiting till the end of the ceremony, he decided to let us know during the exchanging of our vows that he did not record anything and asked if we could start over again so he could record. We graciously declined. What seemed like a bad moment is something we can definitely look back on today and laugh about because it makes our ceremony and our day more unique to us.

My favorite details were the confetti bags that we purchased on ETSY or the Pictograph that we used for our programs.

Advice for a new couple, enjoy the day… try not to stress out… and at some point during the reception take a few minutes to step aside and take it all in.
