Emma & Hurst – Saint Simons Wedding at Christ Church Frederica

I absolutely love shooting weddings on Saint Simons Island, and was so excited to shoot Emma and Hurts’s fall wedding! You might remember this couple from their super fun engagement session in Piedmont Park. The two met at Rice University in Houston, and now call Atlanta home. The couple chose Christ Church Frederica, on St. Simons Island. This gorgeous church has the most serene setting, with native live oaks, and stunning views. It was built in 1820, and is filled with a rich history, and is one of the most photographed spots on Saint Simons.

For the couple, the day was all about their family, friends, and dog! Their pup Shae is a huge part of their life, so Emma made sure to get some portraits with her before the wedding started. Emma wore the most stunning gown! She chose Blythe by Jenny Yoo, a timeless and chic gown with beautiful details. It has a plunging v neck and keyhole back. Emma paired it with a floral and beaded sash and long veil. She had a first look with her father, which was so sweet. I love it when brides choose to do a first look with their dad! It’s such a great time to really enjoy each other, before the business of the wedding day.

Christ Church Frederica Wedding

The couple did their first look on the grounds of Christ Church Frederica, which has beautiful backdrops for portraits. After their ceremony, we took the couples restated vintage car around Saint Simons to get some bride and groom portraits. There are so many gems to choose from! As the sun started to set, we went to a  quiet area, where the two could enjoy some time together before the reception.

The reception took place on the grounds of Christ Church Frederica, under a large tent with lots of cafe lighting. Their planner, Beth Williams and Company, made sure everyone felt so welcome and helped style it to perfection! The flowers by Straton Hall Events included lots of local flowers, like magnolia leaves, and roses.

Hurst was part of an improv group when he met Emma, and even took them to see them perform on one of their first dates. Emma surprised him by having the group perform during dinner, and he just loved it! They also had a super unique guest book – an audio guest book! This fun idea lets guests record messages for the couple, so they can listen to them later. It’s such a fun alternative to a traditional guest book! It was such a great way to tie in their past together. The couple had so much fun dancing the night away, and enjoying the evening with those they love. Congratulations, Emma and Hurst!
