Family Session | Montage at Palmetto Bluff

Photo sessions like this don’t come around every day. The Zesch Family, whom I’ve known for so long and been so close with, reached out to me to capture family photos of them and their little girl. I of course said yes, because who wouldn’t want to capture this beautiful couple and their little bundle of joy?

So, we went to a place that could match their lovely energy and grace.

The Montage at Palmetto Bluff.

Located in South Carolina in Bluffton, the historic hotel has hosted many world-class events. Ever so recently, Justin Bieber’s wedding. But, that doesn’t mean that it’s only the elite that make use of this lovely space. I’ll tell you right now, I’m as down to earth as they come. So, trust me when I say, this is a family friendly venue for all persons.

We held their family session at eleven AM. As a family photographer, you must get the right time of day to shoot. I always choose morning or closer to lunchtime. This is especially helpful when dealing with the little ones, as typically they aren’t tired and fussy. Most importantly, you just want all the family members to feel comfortable. So, Eleven was a perfect choice for the Zesch family.

Photography sessions should be fun and carefree. Candid with care and a photographer’s touch. This allows everybody to be themselves, as family portraits should be representative of just that. Your family. Not what social media tells you your family should be like.

So, to help the Zesch family feel at ease, I had them take a walk through Palmetto Bluff and take in its beauty. Sometimes stopping along the road when I’d see a spot that I just had to capture. I tried to make the photo shoot as relaxed as possible. A trick you have to learn in Newborn Photography.

Oh, and bringing snacks is another trick I’ve got up my sleeve. Sometimes I’ll even share. ;)

As for editing family pictures, I try to keep cool black-and-white images for my editorial couples. Family photos should be lovely, bright and colorful. What better way to see your beautiful family full of joy and life than in color? That said, if you want your family to be captured in black and white, let me know before hand and I can absolutely dream up some ideas for you.
