Inspired by Designer Emily Burton’s childhood memories, this Heirloom Tomato summertime shoot for Savannah Soiree has all of the southern fixings! This modern take on a summer luncheon took place at Smith Brothers Butcher Shop, which is one of Savannah’s best markets and stocks local delicacies.
From Emily:
“Some of my favorite dishes that included tomatoes were my granny’s tomato gravy and homemade biscuits for breakfast. Now from watching her, she would crush up tomatoes put them in an iron skillet and add, a little brown sugar and tomato paste, water, salt and pepper and flour and make a tomato rue. After this cooked down and thickened, it was served over biscuits for breakfast and or possibly lunch over rice. I truly thought it was the best thing.”
The tablescape had pops of color with a tomato and grapefruit runner, and red daisies. The custom plates by Elizabeth Pottery and custom Grapefruit Sunrise cocktails by Kim Daniels added the perfect touches. As an Athens and Savannah-based editorial and wedding photographer, I loved coming to Savannah for this fun day with incredible vendors!
So many of these fun ideas can be incorporated into your wedding, like the watercolor menus and pops of color. And a fun alternative to a floral centerpiece? Using food! It’s a delicious, and inexpensive way to add color to your tables.
