Megan & Miguel are two classy folks – remember them from their stylish Atlanta engagement session? Miguel won me over immediately with his extensive knowledge of wine and travel and Megan’s superb sense of fashion and her cute little freckles are just too good to resist. I knew immediately that their Mansion on Forsyth wedding would be a black tie affair to remember. Enjoy these exquisite photos along with a Q&A with the bride!
Elegant, Glamorous, Classic
How did you draw inspiration for your wedding?
We wanted a formal classic affair with a fun laid back Southern attitude. I took a lot of inspiration from Grace Kelly, Clark Gable, and some of my favorite classic cinematic movies. I wanted to be the bell of the ball and we wanted our guests to have the time of their lives!
I wore my grandmother’s white satin wrist gloves and carried her white leather bible which my mother also carried down the aisle on her wedding day. It is embossed with all of our wedding dates. I also held tightly to my great grandmother Mimi’s monogramed handkerchief. I wore a long circle cut chapel length lace veil. The groom Miguel saw me for the first time walking down the aisle. My wedding gift to Miguel was my deceased father Clair’s gold pocket watch engraved with an ornate C which now stands for Cervantes my new last name. My mother gave my father this as a gift on their wedding day.
What made you choose Savannah for your wedding?
I have loved Savannah since I moved to Atlanta in 1999. I took Miguel there for the first time for his birthday weekend and we fell in love with the city all over again. Having a fashion design background I absolutely draw inspiration from the SCAD students and architecture of the city. It’s gorgeous squares filled with monuments, fountains, Spanish Moss, and a deep rich history truly spark my imagination over and over. Savannah is a fun city that is easy to explore with a lot of amazing adventures to discover.
Styling my bridesmaids. They had a sexy but classic and very glamorous old school Hollywood feel. They had red lips and crimson nails to match. Veronica Lake finger wave long hair parted on the side to show their art deco pearl earrings which matched mine. Their dresses were long champagne colored liquid charmeuse. They looked stunning and very un-bridesmaid-like.
Right before I walked down the aisle. I knew I was walking down by myself which made me nervous but thinking of Miguel waiting for me at the end and knowing that I had two very special angels walking by my side in spirit (my father and grandfather) looking down on me from heaven helped me muster the courage to make my grand entrance.
The ceremony. Hearing my mother recite my fathers favorite verse and having my best friend read a poem in his honor- there was not a dry eye in the sanctuary. I also couldn’t wait to have fun and dance with my family who had traveled so far and see our many close friends.
I knew I was in love when our first blind date turned into two, three, four, dates in a row. Which then in turn became a fun-filled relationship that bonded us together forever ever since.
Seeing Miguel for the first time, looking at his bright shining smile as I walked down the aisle. I was also blessed to have his niece Alexandra as my flower girl. She never left my side, reminding everyone that I was the queen and it was my day. No amount of cake or dancing mattered to her she was my faithful sidekick through and through. I loved showing my grandmother Jean the picture of my grandfather and spending time with all of my family who I love so dearly.
Miguel and Megan both begin with the letter M so M&M was printed everywhere from our invitations to our wedding programs and custom cocktail napkins. All provided by Wedding Paper Divas. We included our Hashtag (our nicknames) #MiggsandMegs #gettingmarried everywhere we could including our photo booth with custom props. Instead of a guestbook we had our guests take their best photos in our photo booth provided by All About You Entertainment. They had a blast and it really added a fun element to the reception. My favorite detail was a sign stating “You can find your seat here, but your place is on the dance floor.” I had it printed in a gold frame next to our seating charts. It held a photograph of my grandmother dancing with my recently deceased grandfather at my aunt Jane’s wedding. It was “In memory of my grandfather James Grant Williamson who never missed a beat.”
Take your time planning and take your time on your wedding day. Appreciate every moment and don’t stress. Time is fleeting and it all passes by so quickly.
