There is a question I get asked often, and it directly pertains to the title of this post.

What is Lifestyle Newborn Photography?

As a professional newborn photographer, the lingo for the job often feels like it is commonplace, that everybody already knows it, but that isn’t true.  Why would someone who hasn’t directly experienced this little space know where that term would ever apply?

So, I thought I would dedicate a step-by-step guide to help better understand what this style of newborn photography is. So, let’s dive in!

First, let’s clear this up. While a Lifestyle Newborn Session can be an At Home Newborn Session, not all At Home Newborn Sessions are Lifestyle Newborn Sessions.

Lifestyle newborn photos often involve a parent or parents and their newborn baby in a comfortable environment, such as their home, or my Athens portrait studio. In this happy and healthy environment, I don’t so much pose newborns as much as I guide them into the warmth of their mother or father’s embrace. Crafting real-life moments and capturing them.

This allows the moment to be not so much a photo session, but merely a loving exchange between a parent and their child in a comfortable setting bathed in natural light with me capturing that instance and emotion for you to cherish forever.

No unnatural posing or dangling of keychains (unless the situation is dire)

A lifestyle newborn session is a candid moment of love.

Just recently, I had the pleasure of photographing the Kollinses at my Athens Portrait Studio, where we were able to create a warm and inviting environment for the family. It didn’t take long for them to find their happy place, and soon we were creating magic.

Creating a Setting

I often like to play relaxing music while also preferring my parents to wear neutral colors to create soothing atmosphere for the little one. The ambient sounds along with mommy and daddy’s voices will often lull the little one into a feeling of safety and comfort. This allows us to stress free session that results in beautiful family photos such as these.

 

These photos were taken at my studio, but this same energy can be placed into your own home. Avoiding sharp contrasting colors and vibrant colors and sticking to the more neutral aesthetic, we can create a little space of calm for your baby. Utilizing this space to craft delicate and detailed shots of you and yours while you live in the moment with your little bundle of joy.
